As most of you know I work as an autism inclusion program instructional assistant aide at a local elementary school here in Carmichael. I absolutely love my job, my coworkers and our students. April is National
Autism Awareness Month, so my coworkers and I decided to make it a priority to educate the other staff members on autism. The staff had such a great response! We enjoyed making shirts, posters and fact sheets for our staff break room that we decided to make this a tradition.
FYI:
Autism prevalence figures are growing
Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
There is no medical detection or cure for autism
Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys
Love,
Katie
