April: National Autism Awareness Month!

As most of you know I work as an autism inclusion program instructional assistant aide at a local elementary school here in Carmichael. I absolutely love my job, my coworkers and our students. April is National Autism Awareness Month, so my coworkers and I decided to make it a priority to educate the other staff members on autism. The staff had such a great response! We enjoyed making shirts, posters and fact sheets for our staff break room that we decided to make this a tradition.

 FYI:

  • Autism prevalence figures are growing
  • Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
  • Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
  • Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
  • Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
  • There is no medical detection or cure for autism
  • Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys

    Got ink?

This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time....

Out with the old, and in with the new! A much better new!

Marcus is the key to my heart. I like tattoos but I love them when they have meaning behind them. I'm so excited to have such a meaningful piece of art with me for the rest of my life.
It was worth all 3 painful hours.

    Love you Marcus man!

    Easter Sunday

Marcus is still a little young to participate in all the Easter festivities but that never holds us back from celebrating. This year we had a delicious brunch at my moms with Grandma, my mom's friends George and Sue and our little clan. After brunch we packed up and headed to Chris's parents house for a few tasty treats. Marcus was spoiled with THREE Easter baskets this year, what a lucky guy!

    Love,
    Chris and Katie
